DUNEDIN HOMING~PIGEON CLUB. Tlie above o'.ub held a race on Saturday last from St Andrews, a distance of 101 miles airline. The birds had tho fortune to get a good day and a favourable wind, of which they took advantage, making a record velocity for the season, the first bird flying the distance in lhr 40min and the next three birds coming very close, there being only two minutes between the first bird and the fourth. The results were as follows:—l£r J. Blacko's bird Kurow. with a velocity of 1780 yards per minute, 1; Mr H. Short's bird Rod Rover, with a velocity of 1774 yards 2ft per minute, 2; and Mr H. Snort's bird Young 86, with a velocity of 1718 yards Ift per minute, 3. A' Palmersfon North telegram gives the following scratching for the first day of the Manawaiu meetina;: — Handicap Hurdles, Mourner; Hack Welter, Blackwing.
