MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
The Alliance Lodge, 1.0. G.T., held their usual weekly meeting in the Friendly Societies' Hall, South Dunedin, on 'Wednesday, Bro. George Thompson, C.T., presiding. Fivo candidates wero initiated. Bro. Begg spoke on the good of the order. During the evening the Chief Templar, on behalf of tho officers and members, presented Sister M'Phoreon with a beautifully framed certificate of membership in recognition of her long and faithful services as treasurer. Sho was also the recipient of a Good Templar brooch and a book of Scotch poems. Sister M'Pherson suitably responded. Harmony was contributed to by the following: Sister P. Wentworth (pianoforte solo), Bro. Todd and Sister Todd (violin and pianoforte duet), and sengs wore sung by Bros. S. Stubbs, H. Wontworth, H. White, (f. Thompson, and J. Marett. Tho vote of thanks to the visitors was responded to by Bro. Breeze (Pioneer), Bro. Beggs (Nightcaps), Bro. Caddie (Hope of Dunedin), and Bro. M'Cormack (All Nations).
Tho Phoenix Encampment, 1.0.0. F.; held their installation meeting in tho Oddfellows' Hall on Friday last, Chief Patriarch Bro. Hmton presiding. Correspondence was received and accounts passed for payment. Acting-Grand Patriarch Bro. D. M, Miller, on being announced, was received with duo honours, and at oncc proceeded to perform his duties, tho following being installed:—Past Chief Patriarch, Bro. Hinton; Chief Patriarch, Bro. M. B. Feil; High Priest, Bro. C. M'Pealt; Senior Warden, Bro. J. A. Walker ; Junior Warden, Bro. J. Ellis; Scribe, Bro. A. 11. Valentine; Guide, Bro. G. Springer; First Watch, Bro. A. SnoII; Second Watoli, Bro. J. S. Nelson; Third Watch, Bro. Y<\ Reid; Fourth Watch, Bro. J. S. Alexander; Insido Sentinel, Bro. T. Shepherd. The installing officer then addressed the o'flicers, and oxhortcd them to fill thoir rospectivo stations with honour, and wished them a very prosperous term. The elective officers thanked tho members for the honour conferred on them. Daring recess refreshments wero served, and a vote of thanks was passed- to Bro. Miller, to which he suitably responded. P.C.P. Bro. Hinton, who is leaving for the Grand Lodge session at Auckland, and thence to tho Australian colonies on tour, was requested to convey tho fraternal greetings of tho lodgo to members of lodges that lie may visit. Bro. Hinton promised to.do so. The. lodge then dosed.in ancient form.
