SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETINGS.

The St. Clair School Committee'met 011 Friday evening; present—Messrs T. J. Walker (chairman), W. Bnskott,'__J..' B. Dick, K. Ewing, W. D. Houston, and Harrison Jones. The Master (Mr Langley Pope), reported that tlio attendance since the reopening had come lip to the average ot the quarter before the vacation. It was also reported that Miss E.' W. Saunders had commenced her duties as first assistant. A consideration ot ways and means showing that the committee wouid not bo ablo to eke out the Government ailownnga so as to cover necessary expenditure, jl was resolved, in preference to getting up an entertainment, to ssk the parents of the children and friends of (he school who arc so disposed to subscribe in small sums .towards the school funds. The monthly meeting of the Union Street School Committee' was held on Friday, and was attended by Messrs G. C. Israel (chairman), A. Meggett, G. Fieury, T.. Ireland,. W. Watson, E. M'Kinlay, J. Dick, and.P. Aitken. The Head Master reported that the total number of pupils on the roll was 5-10, but the average attendance had not been satisfactory owing to prevailing siokness. He • reported further that the money in the savings bonk at date was £158. The Works Committee;,and Visiting Committeos submitted tl|eir reports, showing Ihat the school was in a'very satis-, factory condition. 'The Education Board having agreed to grant £2 for evory fl raised' by the committee for the completion of the .final section of the new iron fence, it was decidedto accept the tender of Messrs Barningharo and Co. for the -work.
