The high pressure caused 1 tho man on top to lose control of the hose, with the result that it performed a numbor of vigorous antics, eventually becoming entangled in the ladder, whioh it precipitated into the middle of the street with those who were on it. Both men. were hurt by tho fall and tho_ ladder striking them, and they were immediately sent to the Hospital, whore it was ascertained the injuries wcro not so serious as at'first anticipated. ■ • * ASHBURTON, March 7. Last night tho three-year-old boh of 'If* John Burgess died from burns received through his flannelette nightdress catching fire. In the absence of his mothor the child got.out of his cot, and ffoiiipr too near the firo tho nightdress ignited. Dr Stephenson, who was passing at tho timo, attended to the man, who shortly afterwards recovered his sonses,- and was able to prococd on his way.
