NEWSPAPER PROPRIETORS ASSOCIATION
(Per United Press Association.) OHRISTOHURCH, March 7. At tho annual moisting of the Nawspapcr Proprietors' Association, hold yesterday, the report and balance sheet were adopted. New rules extending the scope of the association were discussed, and passed with various amendments. Mr Wilkin (Lyttclton Timos) was re-elected president, and Mr G. 801 l (Dunedin S!ar) vice-president. The following ate members of the Governing CommitteeMr 11. Hortnn (New Zealand Herald), Mr G. Carson (Wanganui Chronicle), Mr L. Blunilell (Wellington Poflt), Mr J. L. Kelly (New Zsaland Times), Mr P. Selig (Ohristohurch Press). Mr J. 33. Hyman (Christchurch) was re-elected secretary and treasurer, Mr t». ffenwick was asked to take office, but had to decline, as,_ having become chairman of the Press Association, his time would bo fully occupied. A number of mew members have joined the association, which is now much stronger and more representative of tho press of the colony than formerly. The mooting adjourned after sitting for four hours, and renewed again this morning. Messrs Wilkin (president). S. Saunders, G, G, Stead, P. Selig, JI. Brett, and W. H. Triggs were appointed a deputation to wait on tlio Premier on his arrival in Christchurch, and, representing the whole of the newspaper press of the colony, press upon tho Government the urgency of amending the libcJ laws of the colony, in fairness to the press and public. It was considered the fiovernment should reintroduce tho late Sir P. Buckley's bill, which very nearly became law, as it was considered it would give satisfaction to the press of tho colony.
