CAVERSHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Caversham Borough Council was held last evening, when there were present—The Mayor (Mr J. 'Wilson), and Crs Ewing, Stevenson, Ruston, fuddy, Cole, Carpenter, B. Wilson, Butherford, and Burgess. The Finance Committee reported that the £3000 waterworks loan 'had, through the influence of Cr Ewing, been floated in Wellington, and the clerk had been instructed io get the debentures printed—Approved. The Works Committee recommended that Ifr Turton be informed that the council had no objection to Mr Henderson being given a title • to his land. The committee had granted Mr J. H. Didham. a crossing into his property in Main road during the pleasure of the council, the expense to be borne by himself. The inspector had been instructed to commence the work of making a. road over the slip in Great Queen street as soon as possible, the material to be carted to Baker street.—The report was adopted. i The Drainage, 'Water, and Sanitary Committee recommended the purchase of a. doubleheaded hydrant, at a cost of £8. The council was recommended to form si footpath and water channel in front of Mr Brown's property in High street, at a, cost of £1. Messrs Shacklock, of Park street and Main road, had been given permission to use the hose at £1 per annum each.—Adopted. • A letter from Michael Fleming, asking that the weeds at tho back of his residence be removed, was referred to the inspector, with • power to act. The Engineer of the Drainage and SewerageBoard wrote confirming a verbal arrangement roado with the Mayor, that the work at the Hotel Metropole, St. Clair, should be done by the board's workmen. The council was requested to arrange to put in a road- crossing over the footwalk at this property,—Bcceivcd. The Secretary, of the Drainage Board wrote stating that the drainage rate for tho year April, 1, 1903, to March 31, 1904, would bo the same as for the current year—viz., id in the pound within tho city and-2d in the pound within the remaining portion of the drainage i district.—Received. A communication ma ircceived from'- the Dunedin Town Clerk agreeing to the request of the council that the water supply to the borough should be allowed to go through both the six-inch meters. / Leave of absence was granted to Cr Stevenson for the remainder of his term of officc.
