MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
The weekly meeting of Pioneer of Dtmedin Lodge was held in the Lower Choral Hall on Tuesday evening, Bro, T. H. Dalton, C.T., presiding " One broiher was restored to membership, 0 and six candidates were initiated. A to! of business for the good of the order was discussed.' It was reported that Bro. sniltil (sentinel) had met with an accident at Logan s Point quarry. Regret was expressed, also a hope that Bro. Smith would soon be restored to health again. It being sisters' night, they had provided an excellent musical programme, but owing to the lateness of the hour this could not be fully carricd oui The following items were, however, contributed Songs, Sirfors H. Cootc and B. Gunn (encored); recitation, Sis. A. Gain; Sisters MacfavJanc and Gain acted as accompanists. The following resolution was unanimously carried:—"That the lodge convey to Bro. A. S. Adams their heartiest greetings and congifttuifttiofts upon the success which has attended his able efforts on behalf oi the Temperance party in opposing the petitions lodged in the Supreme Court by the publicans agaiust the recent local option polls in Mataura. Dunedin. Wflikouftiti, Caver* sham, and especially for the signal victory m the case of the Chalmers district petition as disclos-ed in the judgment of' his Honor Mr Jnstico "Williams." Loyal Orange Lcdgo William Johnston, TCo. 12.. held their quarterly summons meeting in the Friendly Societies' Hall, South Dw.cdin, on Tuesday evening. The Bro. Smith, presided, supported by tho G.M., Bro. James, and P.G.M. Bro. Gregg. There was a large attendance of members and visitors. After tho' candidates hsd been admitted the G.M., Bro. Inncs, in a few wll-chosen words, presented P/W.M. Bro. S. Scott wilh his P.M. certificate. Bro. Scolt suitably responded. It was arranged to commence the quarterly K.A.P. degree meeting from Tuesday, i7ih March. The vote of thanks to the visitc.:« rM responded to by the G.II. oi: behalf of ■: Grand Lodge.
