Howes, in wiiioh his Honor last week refused a husband's petition, alleging that the petitioner by his action in trapping his wifo praelicaHy consented to her offence. GISBORNE, March 5. The Borough Council to-night- decided to geek a lean of £25.000 from the Harbour Board. The latter borrowed in London at 5 per cent. The funds are administered through the Public Trust Office. The board only obtain 3£ per cent, for the mone) in hand, and the council offers 4- per cent. Tho syndieato that purchased the wreck of the Tasmania advertise a, warning against interfering with the wreck without permission of tho owners. PJiir.-DING, March 3. Entries for tho Podding Industrial Exhibition have much exceeded anticipations. A special building is in course of erection, and the exhibition promises to bo most sucecssful. ■WELLINGTON, March 3. The Rev. G. P. Days, M.A., has been appointed to succeed Dr Watera as vicar of St. Peter's, Wellington. Tho premises of Hildreth and Sons, waste product merchants, Lome street, were entered last night by burglars, who removed the safo from tho office and blew it open with dynamite. The plunder only amounted to a few shillings and a, gold watch and chain. NELSON, March 3. _ Tho Medical Conference continued their sittings this forenoon, tho press not being admitted. Dr Collins read a paper on " Surgery: Movablo Ividney." Mr J. Graham, M.H.R., has been reelected chairman of the Nelson Harbour Board unopposed.
CHRISTCHURCH, March 3. Tho Hospital Board having received no reply to tlio reqnrnt that tho City Council authoriso the outlay of £1000 on Bottle Lake Infectious Diseases Hospital, wrote to the connoil stating that tho board would take no further action in the management of that hospital. Last night the City Council decided to ask the board to continue m charge, limiting tlio expenditure to necessities till thi> hospital was permanently vested in tho board. ■ The Patriotic Fund Committee, who have £1200 to their crcdit, have decided to propose to tlio subscribers that £500 be given to tho Veterans' Home, £100 to the Jubilee Memorial, and to beep the balanco for contingent cases. The proposals are to be submitted to the subscribers on March 11.
