Thp Premier has sent a strong minute to the Lieutenant-Governor relenting certain remarks made by him at the-lay-ing of the foundation stone of a , savings bank, in which he delivered a warning to depositors against auy Government control of the bank. It has been for some time a debatable matter whether the Government should or should not assnme control of the bank in question. The Premier thinks the Lieutenant* Governor made a mistake in volunteering his .personal opinion. The Governor has explained tiiat he spoke as a depositor, not as a Governor.
