(Feu Uxited Frks3 Association.) "WELLINGTON, January 7. Licutona,nt-colonel Messenger, for many years in charge of tho Permanent Artillery, am! Caplain Falconer, in charge of tho Torpedo Corps, havo been retired from the service. It is understood that Colonel Messenger will l.'O replaced hy Major Mooro, of the Koyal Engineers, who camo out hero a year or two ago as staff onicer of artillery. Captain W. Coyie, inspector of submarine mining at Auckland, will temporarily ii'.l the position occupied by Captain Falconer. Lieutanant-oolonel Ncwall, in charge of the Wellington district, ip also to retire, and other changes aro pending. Another officer to retire from the Defence Department is Captain Lomas, who has been adjutant of tho Wellington district for two years. Ho joined the Taupo l'ield Force in 1C63, and was captain and adjutant of the First Regiment of Now Zealand Cavalry under Captain Noakc. He wears the New Zealand war medal, and was recommended for tho New Zealand Cross by Colonel M'Donnell and Major Kemp, but never received it. It is understood Major Reid, acting idinfant at. Auckland is retiring from ths Defonce Department.
