Fitzpatrjck, chairman of the Johannesburg Chamber of Mines, has been appointed trustee of the Phillips gift to indigent Boers, the amount of which has been remitted, to South Africa. The Standard states that the loyalist? are leaving Burghersdorp, the Dutch being particularly aggressive. The latter urge boycotting, and appeal to the predicants in the country districts to exclude the National Scouts from participating in the Communion. January 1. (Received Jan. 2, at 12.35 a.m.) The Times says that Schalk Burger's exhortations to tho Afrikanders tally very closely with the disloyal schemes he expounded in a letter to Mr Steyn, proving .the justice of Mr Chamberlain's pointed oservations that declarations of loyalty may mean much or little. (Received Jan. 2, at 11 p.m.) The Transvaal revenue for the current year amounted to four millions. CAPETOWN, December 31. Lord Milner recommends that all those who surrendered under Lord Roberts's proclamation be fully compensated for stock taken apart from that destroyed in "drives," etc. He also recommends that they and the National Scouts should participate in the £2,000,000 grant. ' General Lyttelton is recruiting Boers for the Somaliland expedition. January 1. (Received Jan. 2, at 9.5 a.m.) An ordinance issued.in Pretoria confers copyright for 72 hours on press telegrams from outside the colony. There have been 13 cases of smallpox at Capetown in three days.
