The Rev. Mr Vlou, Dutch pastor of the Picquetberg division in one of the western provinces, owing to his refusal to take the oath of loyalty to Great Britain, offended his flock. The church wardens subsequently waited upon, and offered him £1000 to resign. , MELBOURNE, September 30. (Received Oct. 1, at 1 a.rh.) Mr Deakin supplied the Federal House with information from an official letter he received as to the condition of the labour market in South Africa. The gist of it is that 12,000 to 15,000 persons, including hundreds of Australians, are waiting in the coastal towns for permits to proceed inland. In his opinion there were no opportunities for Australians in South Africa.
