VAfc a meeting of Liberals :held at Milton on Friday evening Mr J. A. Scott was as 'the Government candidate to opppse. Mr James Allen, M.H.R., in the forthcoming contest for the Bruce seat. Mr A. L. Herdman, who is out as a candidate for tho Mount Ida. seat, is to address a meeting at ICurow on Friday evening next. Mr R.' Ohisholm, a, candidate for the City, wjll meet his friends and supporters this evening. At the conclusion of Mr Reardon's address at Karori, Wellington, on Friday a. resolui tion was carried asking tiie candidate to stand down for ati accredited Government candidate. , Mr Reardon replied that if the Government were foisting a candidate on the electors he would sacrifice the seat to affirm the principle of. manhood suffrage. At a meeting of the Christclnirch Trades and Labour Counoil, held on Saturday, it was 'decided to run three candidates at' the general election. At a meeting of the Hawera. branch of the Farmers' Union questions proposed to be submitted to candidates for parlimentary honours were considered and adopted, and instructions were given to the delegate to the conference of'VMeea**s from branohes to bo held here on Thursday next.
