(Received August 29, at 9.29 a.m.) Holmes, who attempted to sivim the Channel from Dover to Cape Grisncz, had to abandon tho attempt six miles fl'Olil tho I'rench coast-, owing to sickness. Holbein, who started to sivim from Gusuez, was takeij out of tho water withiiiS a mile of Dover parade. Ho had been immersed over 23 hours. He made a great struggle, having to advance against the tide at the finish. LONDON, August 29. (Received August 29, at 11 p.m.) Holbein was very exhausted. He covered 63 miles. Ho will not re-neat the attempt-.
