C.J.C. GRAND NATIONAL MEETING,

(Pbb United Piiess Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 14.

The Canterbury Jockey Club were favoured with splendid weather for the second'day of the National meoting. There was an excellent attendance, including the Governor and suite. The track was much firmer than it was oil the first day; In the August Handicap Blazer was made first choice, but few on the ground expected to see Goldspur make the bold bid for victory that he did. Some two weeks back he went lame in the shoulder with an attack of rheumatism, and was considered very short of work. Goldspur was one of the first away, and racing for tho straight he was going strong. Blazer lay fourth, in a good position, imt .once in the straight several of the field passed him, and he never got a clear run afterwards. Goldspur led to 50 yards from the post, when Titoki put in his challenge, and in a great finish home the latter beat the Dunedin horse by a nose. Considering that he had to be stopped in ln's work Goldspur ran a great race, and bis owner experienced hard luck in supplying three seconds in two days. Tteshaiu, who went out a hot favourite, won the big race with ridiculous ease. Tho sum of .-€13,767 went through the totalisator as compared with £12,571 on tile second day last year. Six out of eight events on the card went to North Island horses. The following ate the results : — SUMMER HANDICAP, Of SOsovs. - One mile and a-quarter. 171—Sir 'S. H.
