SOUTHLAND CHAMPION PLOUGHING MATCH.
(Fboh Our Owk Cobbbsfohdsht.) INVERCARGILL, August 6. The annual Southland Ploughing Cham--pionship meeting was held on Mr "Walker Blackie's farm at Branxholme to-day, Tlie weather was superb, and the ground a u ' splendid ploughing ordter. There wore 27 ploughs entered, five more than last yeqr, and the attendance of spectators, considering that there was no holiday, waa very satisfactory. . In tho champion double-furrow class, for which there were 16 competitors, W. A. Gray was first, David Hardie seoond, Colin Gray, jun., third, and Malqolm Gray fourth.' In the class for ploughmen who have not won a first prize in ft senior class H. S. Irving was first, Dan Docherty second, and T. Fahey third. In the junior class J. Linton, jun., was first, with A. Gray, , jun., .' second; and in tho single-furrow class the > order was Dun Noblo first, Dun M'Callum S second, and Duncan M'Callum third. The three jumps competition waa won by Mr MooreV Manw.ona, with Mr D. M'lvor'a Wakakii second,' and Mr W. J. Cowie'a Otapiri third; and tho high jump by Waikaka, with |r f. Swale's Frigal -
