Triggs took his seat as chairman of tho Conciliation Board for the iirst time this morning. Mr Triggs, being out of business, is in a position to deal with all matters coming be>'Viro the board in an impartial manner. ; The Taitnpu School Committee trouble with the Education Board over the question of school flooring is to be sifted in tho Law Courts. The board put down a graded floor against the wishes of the committee, and the committee piomptly pulled i>; up, and, disregarding tlio threats of injunctions and other legal terrors, laid down-a flat one. At a meeting of tho Tai- ■ tapu School Committee on Monday evoning tho position of affairs was discussed at length. The chairman reported that he had received a lawyer's letter warning the committee that it would be, held responsible for, damages and costs in case of any disturb-' ance to tho- floor, and Riving notice of the board's intention to apply lor an injunction to restrain the committee from giving effect to- iifj declared intention. 'Operations! were again commenced, and the level floor 1 was put down, and it was considered ad vis- : ahlo to nlco have three' of tho four grades' replaced and made movable. On the evening of the same day each member of tho committee had been served with notice of the intention of the board's solicitors to apply for a writ of injunction to prevent the work being done. The committee were advised that the board might, probably alter iis ease in tho circumstances to one of damages, although in view of the facts the hoard might let the matter drop altogether. In ilie event of such a contingency the committee decided that, in order to define the powers of the board and in the interests of other committees who may be similarly treated, an action be laid against the board . with a view of recovering tho money ex- I pended in putting the echool building in i tile same' state as before the board's interference. It was mentioned that strong financial support would bo forthcoming in the district to help the committee if needed. .
