PEKING, August 5. (Received August G, at 9.51 p.m.) The projected Anglo-Chinese commercial- treaty will free foreign imports from likiu on the basis of the method of payment of liliin in the Opium Convention. Likin stations will be retained for the Chinese merchants alone.
HONGKONG, August G. (Received August G, at 10.6 p.m.) General Sharritt, the American Tariff Commissioner, speaking at a banquet in Shanghai, said the substitution of u surtax for the lilciu would be disastrous to all nations, especially America.
