MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

At the King Street' Congrcgatioual Chutcli last evening the ordinary meeting ot the Young Men's Literary Guild took the form of a, Dickens reading. Mr G. C. Israel, who pays an annual visit to the puild, selected for his reading Dickens's own abridgment o( "David Copperfield." Himself an ardent admirer of the author, Mr Israel succeeded in holding tile attention of his audience from start to finish by his masterly interpretation of the familiar characters, and was accorded at the conclusion a- warm vote of thanks for his entertaining reading. At the ( \vccklv meeting of the Dundas Street Literary and Debating Society the evening's entertainment was .entrusted to the ladies, who submitted an excellent- programme of songs, recitations; graphaphone selections, and short essays. Refreshments we're 'handed round to a moat appreciative audience.

The installation of officers of the 'Ruth Rebekah Lodge took place on Thursday evening. The G.W. (Bro. D. M. Miller, as Acting Grand Master), assisted by the D.D.G.M. (Bro. Pattison) and P.O. Sisters Chapman, Kcmnitz, Wiikinson, 'installed, the following:— J.P.G., Sis. J. Rmiciman; N.G., Sis. B. Lothian; V.Cr., Sis. B. Bird; secretary, Sis. A. Lothian; treasurer, Sis. M. Miller; warden, Sis. I), Reid; conductor, P.G. Sis.'Wilkinson; 1.G., Sis. It. Reid; R.SiX.Cr., P.G. Sis. Chapman; li.S.V.G., Sis. Sparrow; chaplain, Sis. Hirrst. Voles ot thanks were passed to Grand Lodge, Linda Lodge, and to tho J.P.G. (Sis. Runeiman) for her services to the lodge during her term of office. Bro. D. 11. Miller, G.W., responded on behalf of Grand Lodge, and Sis. Lithgow for Linda Lodge. The Miriam Rebekah Lodge, No. 5, held their fortnightly meeting on "Monday evening in :tho Friendly Societies' Hall, South Dunedin, the N.G. (Sis. F. M'Kinlay) in the chair. After business the G.L. officers (G.W. Bro. D. M. Miller, G.S. Bro, AT. Reid, and D.D.G.M. Bro. J. Pattison), assisted by P.G. Sis, J. Runeiman, visited officially for the purpose of installing the officers for the ensiling term, as follows:— J.P.G., Sis. P. M'Kinlay; N.G., Sis. M. A. Lyons; V.0., S:s. If. M'Kinlay; secretary, Sis. Luscombe; treasurer, Sis. Ban- (reelected): warden, Sis. Ellisi P.G.; conductor, Sis. 0, Miller; R. and L.S.N.G., Sisters Smith and West-wood; E. and L.S.V.G., Sisters Miller and Baldwin; 1.G., Sis. A. Popham; 0.G., Sis. A. Riddell ; chaplain, Sis. Chapman. G.S; Bro. Reid and G.W. Bro. Miller briefly addressed tho members. Votes of thanks wero responded' to by G .W. Bro. Miller aud Sisters P. M'Kinlay and C. Miller. The fort-nightly meeting of tlie Loyal Volley Lodge, M.tT., was held in the iodgeroom, North Dunedin Drill Hall, on Monday 'evening, jX.G. Bro. B. J. Stewart presiding.. .The .half-yearly balance shc.et and auditors' report was adopted. P.G. Bro. Young was presented with his emblematical certificate after passing through the various chairs. Four candidates were initiated. After business the lodg-e went into harmony, several brethren contributing. Bro. H. Williams (of the Hr.nd and Heart Lodge) responded to the second toast of the evening. Receipts, £10 2s id.

At the fortnightly meeting oi Court Little Jollll, A.0.P., Koslvil, on Thursday evening, (Bro. J. D. Haigh) presiding, it was decided to accept tho invitation to visit Court Pndo oi Roslyn. The C.ll, reported attending the snecial district meeting recently held in Duncdin.
