BREEDING STOCK., MELBOURNE, July 25. (Received July 25, at 10,56 a.m.) The State Minister of Agriculture promised a deputation to take, legislative action controlling the breeding of cattle. It. was stated that the loss to the Commonwealth under the present system was £200,000 annually. 'h . FIRE IN A TIMBER MILL. (Received July 25, at .10.48 p.m.) A fire in the Beech Company's Timber Mills destroyed the valuable plant and a large quantity of stock. STOCK RETURNS. SYDNEY, July 25. (Received July 25, at i 1.49 a.m.) Last year's stock returns show the number of horses in the State at the end of December to number 455,130, an increase of 630 j cattle, 1,188,000, an increase of 07,000; sheep, ( 41,857,000, an increase of 1,836,000 compared with tho previous year. The average lambing returns were GBf per cent. The total wool clip is estimated at 245,105,0001b, an increase of 9,848,0001b. Pi gs s h ow a good increase.
