NOTES FORM GORE.

(FliOM OoK.OWX COIIRESPOXDENT.)

GORE, July 2*.

An inquiry was conducted Ijy Mr Oruiksbank, S.M., last night and until 3 o'clock this morning into the cause of tho fire whereby the house of P. J. O'Connor wa3 recently burnt down.. Tho jury found that although (he circumstances, especially overir.suranc?. appeared suspicious, the evidence was insufficient to justify them in coming to the conclusion that O'Connor wilfully set fire to the 'premises. The police, it is stated, aro going to prosecute for alleged faleo declarations as to O'Connor's losses.

In the case Cameron v. Tilson, a claim of £200, value of the trotting horse Fichu, the magistrate (Mr Cniickshnnk) this afternoon gavo judgment for Cameron, holding that Amos'fl condition was such when ho signed the sale note to Tilson as lo justify him in declaring the sale note null and void. Tilson is allowed to retain possession of the horse until the amount of the lien is eati--fied by Amos. Tho case is one in which sporting men are greatly interested throughout Otago, sis Fichu is one of tho fastest mile horses in the province.

— An X-ray photograph of any portion of tho human body can now bo taken perfectly in ono second, instead of tho tedious and exhausting exposure- of from half an hour to Eomotimcß two hours. This is tho lalD3t triumph of D. 'IT. P. Pratt, of Chicago. Ono.of the greatest features of tho new discovery is theaid it gives the surgeon in critical case.-, when a patient is very ill or nervous, and long exposures frequently resulted badly. \
