Hopkins was caught by Caukrodger at the wicket when he had compiled 23. One for 43. Hill succeeded, and the new partnership was characterised by lively play. It lasted 45 minutes, and added 74 to the score. Hill was the first to go, being bowled by Burrows. Two for 107. Further rain and tho luncheon interval delayed resumption of play till 3 o'clock. The batsmen continued to severely punish the bowling, and the score mounted rapidly. Duff had reached 90 when he was bowled by Wilson with a beautiful ball. He was 130 minutes at tho wickets, and played faultless cricket. .
