MORNING TON, The Tegular meeting ot the Mornington Borough .Council was held last evening, and wns attended by the Mayor (Mr W.Gowj, Crs Simon, Grigg, Anderson, Reynolds, Wood, Sneddon) Carolin, and Millar.

Mr H. A. Gibson wroic- complaining 01" the condition of the road in iront of his place,— lioforrcci to the Works Committee, with power to act. .

Messrs Callan aiid Gsllaway wrote, on behalf of Mr L. Clancey, claiming £2-5 damages sustainod through hia falling into a hole whilo proceeding along Kglinton road.—Referred to the General Committco to inquiro into.

Mr S. Pickens wrote complaining of tho neglected state of Outiam street.—To be informed that' it-was on l!ie list of works for tho current year, and would be dealt with in its turn.

The Ocean Beach Domsvin Board wrote requiring tho payment o! a contribution of £12 Is! Gd.—Referred to the Finance Committee, ivitu power Co act.

The Rcv.W. Scorgie wrote offering the council a small aoction of land along the quarry at £75.—Referred to the Works Committco to report.

A numerously-signed petition of Maryhill residents was presented drawing attention to the bad condition of the footpath in Avoca Btreot—Referred to tho Works Committee to sea if a way could be opened to Avoca street through Luing's property. Mr W. E. Jeffreys wrote in reference to the widening 'of Haveloek street. A quantity of earth would have to be put on his proporty, and lie mentioned the terms on which ho was agreeable to the work being done.—Referred to the Works Committee with instructions to proceed with tho work provided it could be done concurrently witli tho widening of Hawthorn road.

Tho Finance Committee reported that £211 17s 3d had. been paid into the Wit (luring June, and recommended that accounts amounting to £261 Gs be passed for payment.— Adopted.

Tho Works Committee recommended, with' regard to Mrs Itnplinel's letter, that the cutting ba made, and the bank sloped back, as requested; material to be tipped in Bath street and lire Wilkinson's Beclions to get full width of road. That, with regard to the Maclaggan street drainage across tho Belt, tho Drainage .board be asked to make arrangements to'take the drainage across tho Belt from the Momnigton Borough boundary. That Mr Parkiny.on s request to have a cutting made in front of his section, Hawthorn avenue, be referred to tho inspector, with power to act. That the drain complained of by Mr A. F. Cargill bo repaired; cost to he charged to the' Drainage loan . That, with regard to Mrs Wilkinson's complaint, suitable entrances bo made to tile property oh the' filling in being completed. I hat, m connection with Mr H. A. Gibson's request,: Steps bo put in. With regard to St. A ™ s wad Works that tho greater part of the drainage iu St. Ann's road be sewered by a9m sewer. That the footpath, Avoca street, froni St. Ann's road to Appold strict, be repaired. That a concreto channel be formed on tho south side of Milton street, from St. Anns road to Robert street; and that pipes be laid from there to Mr Wilson's drain pipe. That a concrcte channel be laid in Cooper street where necessary. That about two chains of pipes be laid in Chapel street to Elgin road, to lake all the drainage. That Resent street .b* closed for traffic at tho top end, and the proposed cutting started; the-rock procured to be laid and broken on the strects.-Adopted. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Simon, seconded by • Cr "Wills, that all correspondence be considered by the committees directly • interested, and that a monthly report as to how the correspondence had been dealt with be submitted to tho council; no committee to have the. power to deal with any question that involved an expenditure of mora than- the sum or £5 without reference to the council, subject to the standing orders.

, ST. KILDA. The usual fortnightly meeting of the.St, Hilda.Borough Council was held last evening, and attended by tho Mayor (Mr G. Hodges), Crs Gore, Sandilands, Parker, Marlow, Allen, Bellctt, Burke, Asliton, and Dr Coughtrey. . The Roslyn Borough Council wrotp suggest!ng that- a conference of suburban boroughs be lield at an early date iu connection with tho fact that the concessions granted to the- Caversham Gas Company by several of the boroughs eipired about- tho'same time,—The clerk to writo ihat the St. Kildn Council Was prepared to meet the Roslyn and other councils in conference at a time thot should be fixed on. Mr Mirams; secretary of the Drainago Board, wrote asking if the permanent levels of the roads-within-the-hor'dugh were available for tlip board s use.—Referred to tho Works Com-. mittee, with power to report. Mr W. Ings, St. Clair, wrote that if the council cleaned the box dram in Prince Edward road so that it could run dry at the inlet near Moreau street and kept it clean lie would pay £5 and clean for one year' the open part of the ditcli from the box to his gate,—lt was agreed that Mr Ings l>a thanked for his offer, and that the council did not sec why he should be called on to contribute moro than his rate, and would assist him with the Drainage Board in obtaining the necessary relief. The applications of William Taylor for 300 loads of sand and Thomas Caddie fpr 200 loads were granted, subject to the inspector's approval of the place of removal. Notice was received from the Health Department that a case of diphtheria had occurred at Queen's drive, Musselburgh. The South Duncdin Council wrote notifying Hint they intended aiter July 1 to charge £15 per annum fov the use of the South Duncdin Fire Brigade.—The clerk to -reply that a St. Kjkla Fire Brigado was being inaugurated,'but ■until its torniation the latter council was prepared to pay the fee named.

The General Committee recommended that the council, being- now in accord with the City Council on all points save season and other tickets, be prepared to sign the agreement with the .City Council if the latter would agree that, within six months of the new system showing » profit, concession tickets would be issued giving a 25 per ceil}, reduction. The committee also recommended that Mr Alex. Matilie be appointed captain of the fire brigade pro tem., and that other applications ho handed over to him to report, lie also to recommend the number required to make an efficient fire brigade.— The report was adopted. Tho Pinanco Committeo recommended the payment of accounts amounting to £50 Os 3d; that the Town Hall be leased on Sundays at 4s for the morning, 3s for the afternoon, and «s for the evening; that sections 1 and 2, Week XYI, be offered for salo.by auction; that nccessary steps be taken to levy a special rate v/ith a view to establishing iv sanitary service;— The report was adopted. The inspector's and Works Committee's reports of detail work were adopted,

WEST HARBOUR. The monthly meeting of the West Harbour Borough Council was held last evening. There were present the Mayor (Mr F. G. Cray), C.rs Lamach, Boss, Duncan, O'Donnell, George, and Barker.

Cr Keilett mote resigning his position as councillor for Rothesay Ward, as circumstances compelled liini to do so.—The resignation was received with regret, and a motion putting on record, the council's appreciation of. Cr Kellet's services in the past was carricd. The Town Clerk, Duncdin, wroto an regard to the hole in the load at the approach to the bridge, Logan's Point Quarry, and the council's request that tho same be repaired, lie said that the Cjtv Council's Public Works Committee did not recognise any liability. The Town Clerk also wrote stating that application was being made for a grant of £250 towards the repair of the bay road from Lower Union street to Logan's Point Quarrv.—J 1 , was dneidrd to refer the matter of repairing the hole nt the Logan's Point bridge to the clerl; to have it attended to. It was also' decided to write to the City Council thanking them for their action in endeavouring to net £250 for repairs lo the Bay road.

A telegram from the Acting-Premier to tho effect that the Government subsidy would bo available-for the new hall which the council proposed to erect as a Coronation memorial was received.

Several telegrams from the Acting-Premier in regard to tho King's health were received.— It was decided to write to Sir J. G'. Ward thanking him for his thoughtfulnoss in sending the telegrams. Mr Thos. Tait, Rothesay, drew attention to the state of tho footpath leading to his house in Montague street. He hoped- something would be done to it, as in wet weather thry could not pass in and out. —Referred to tho Works Committee to report. - ( Tiie Secretary of the Ilaibour Board wrote in regard to the deputation from the council that had waited on tho board with reference to the Ravensbonrne reclamation, and said it had been resolved to refer the matter to tho engineer for a report. i Tho District Engineer of. Railways wrote s.aling it was proposed to reconstruct the Sawyers. Bay station, and when the work was ■carried out they hoped to keep tho stool; yards clear of the road.
