HOISTING THE FLAG.
A very peasant cc-remony took place at tlio Upper r Junction Schoolhouso last Wednesday, when the flag supplied by the Eduction BoanT was lioiEtciVfor-tho first time. Mrs Simmer?,- who hoisted tho. flag, • recoived ft. round of applause, and as tho flag roaohed .tho masthead tho children and tho crowd gavo vent to thoir feelings by three hearty chcers. Mr Lewis, who addressed tho children, impressed upon their minds the fact tliat tho flag that had just bcon hoisted was n badge of honour, a shield of protection, a pillar of strength, a sign of union, a liannor ol triith, purity and froedom,- and inspiration Many had fought, bled, and died.-in dcfcnco of that flag in ages paßt.. Many ta-day would willingly lay down their l'ves to maintain its honour, and many nations would in future bless tho inspiring and glorious) emblem a nation that was at onco loved, feared, and honoured—a nation granting religious and political freedom unequalled .in tho whole universe. Tlio children and tho. others present wore then treated to tea, eatcos, and lollies by. tho committee, after which Coronation cards wero distributed. After "tied save tho King" had been sung by all tho children, Mr Simmers (tlio head master) called for three chcers for the flag,, which wore given with great spirit, and tho meeting dispersed.
