BIBLE TALKS.
The subject of Mi' Corrie Johnston's stldress last night at the Trades Hall was "Surpassing I'owcr." The speaker romarked that Paul prayed as lie taught, and the. theme was one of three petitions— namely (1) that they might- know the hope of his calling j (2) the virhes of tho glory of his inheritance; and (3) the surpassing irreatr.css of hi-; pov.rr. Thcso first two tilings were what wore ' taught' earlier in the chapter. The "surpassing power" was such, as it was not that 'displayed in ereaiion or in connection with the deliverance of Israel, and planting them in the land; but it v;as oxercised in taking Christ from the dead, and setting Him on tho throne above all power. Then tho same power was working towards believers—indeed, towards those dead in sins—to raise (hem up to sit in heavenly places in Christ, To. create man was the climax of God's work, at the beginning. Xow that man had sunk fo low, to raiss him far higher, to sit in" the hcavenlies, was the result of surpassing power. To paint a mastcrpiccc was within the power of very few: but suppose the " picture were torn to shreds, and scattered by the wind, and it were possible for anyone to gather up the fragments, and not only restore, hut excel, the original picture, that would only faintly illustrate the working ( f this surpassing power in taking a mined man, as Adam, and setting him not bade in Paradise lost, Imt in tho r.ew (•■•onlion in the Paradise of God, This, md nothing less than this, is what God is doing hy the surpassing greatness of Ilis power. This brief notice gives a very faint idea of one of the most remarkable addresses the speaker lias ever given in Duncdin. lie lick! ilie riveted attention of the audience as if they were spellbound. At (he close the matter of taking tho Alhambra Theatre on Sunday was talked over. It was heartily agreed to have ■ a meeting there in the afternoon and in the ! evening from 8 to 9. The subjects for these and the meetings in tho Trades Hall , next week are advertised.
