DEATH OF THE REV. L. J. RYAN.

(From Our O.vn Correspondent.) ROXBURGH, January 4. Tho Rev. L. J. <fty„ n died this morning from an internal trouble contracted through being thrown from his dog-cart about six weeks ago. He leaves a wifo and child, for whom much sympathy ia folt. During the evening scrvico at Trinity WesJoyan Church yesterday special reference was made by the Rev. I». W. Fairclougl, to the lamentable deaths during tho past week of the Rev. J. 11. Gray, of Greymouth, and the Rev, L. J. Ryan, of Roxburgh, both loved and honoured members of the Wesloyan ministry. Tho organic • (Miss I) Hartley) played tho "Dead March*" iii Saul," and the choir, under Mr S. lawn, sang " Crossing the bar," tho congregation standing throughout as a mark of respect to the deceased. Special reforeneo was made last evening at the, Central Mission scrvico in the Garrison Hall by the Rev. \V. A. Sinclair to tho death of the Rov. L. J. Ryan, of Roxburgh. Mr Sinclair said that Mr Ryan had been for a short time an assistant to tho Rev. W. Ready while ho was nastor of tho Central Mission, and by his devotion and cheerfulness had endeared himself to a great many members of the congregation, who still remembered him with affection. Ho was a young man of great promise, and his early death would he a great loss W the Methodist Church. Mr Sinclair commended the widow and her child to the prayers and sympathy of the congregation. At tlio eloso of tho service tho "Dead March" was played by the orchestra under tho oonductorehip of Mr Don. while the vaat congregation which filled the hall stood reverently.
