MELBOURNE LAWK TENNIS TEAM.
The following members of the Melbourne. Cricket. Club, who nro to be compctiiors in the forthcoming tennis meeting 'in Christchurch, arrived by the JTonowai on Wedr.es-' day morning:—Messrs A. Dnnlon. J. Dunlon. L. Saxon,. K. Waters, S. Duklam./and M'Kean. The committee of the. local association were unaware they Were coming, and consequently they were not met on their arrival, but afterwards every atientiori was shown them. They were taken down to the Ota<?o courts, where tliov had some' practice, and had a look round Dunedin, leaving for Christehureh on Friday morning.
SWIMMING.
A large and enthusiastic meeting was held in I he Albany street School Gymnasium Hall on Thursday night, when it. was uranimouriy resolved to form a. swimming rinb. to be known as the Dimeciin Amateur SwimminnClub. It was decided to ask his Worship the Mayor to become president, and other prominent citizens to accept office. All intending members can obtain membership tickets by applying to the caretaker of the St. Clair and Logan's Point baths.
A Clinstclmrch menage states that t.ho visiting athletes and members of the Victoriau tennis teams were formally welcomed to Christchurch by the mayor (Mr Recce) yesterday afternoon.
The Norl.li Otago Times says that -Messrs 0. and H. Tcsehemaker had a. successful evening's fishing at the Waitaki this week-. They caught 10 fine fish, one weighing 141b On Saturday last Mr R. J. S. Barman caught a trout at the mouth of the Kakaia River weighing 17£lb. Mr Hunt, a. few clays previously, caught one weighing 181b. The catches on the river just now are phenomenal, both in quantity and weight.—Aehburton Mai],
