In our notice of the excellent performance given by the pupils of St. Dominick's College on Friday evening mention of one item was accidentally omitted. At the establishment of A. G. Watson, Princes street South, on Saturday Mr Herbert F. At a meeting of the ex-pupils of the Lawrence District High School on Thursday evening, it was resolved (says the Tuapeka Times) that all ex-pupils be invited to subscribe. Miller will donate a Royal Ensign, in lieu of a second flagpole, as was his original intention. It will not be possible for tliß donors to h.nnd the flag over to the school until after the vacation.

In connection with the presentation of a Union Jack and flagstaff to the Lawrence District Hi;zh School, it may be stated (says the Tuapeka Times) that one of the old pupils, who occupies a prominent position in Dunedin, on being applied to for a subscription offered to defray the whole cost. As it is intended to collect subscriptions from all the old pupils, the offer was not accepted, although, no doubt, the intentions of the wouldbe donor will be hilly appreciated.

It Iras been decided that a prominent position in the Commonwealth procession shall be allotted to those New South AVales volunteers who have returned from South Africa. Arrangements will also be made by which men bearing medals showing that they hare fought in the battles of the Empire will be marshalled as a corps of veterans, and join in the procession.

Engineers on dredges have now just cause to pull long faces, as many have had to relinquish their positions to go in for close study of the various clauses attached to the act which the (Government have lately passed in connection witU engineers. Many a man is thoroughly capable of taking charge of the engine and machinery of a dredge, but the act compels him to pass an examination and be the holder of a certificate. A good few men have been affected in the Roxburgh and the Alexandra districts, and it is thought that the dredging industry will be somewhat hampered in consequence.—Mount Benger Moil. During the hearing of a case in the District Court, Palmerston North, last week, Mr District Judge Kettle commented on the lax manner in which certificates of fitness under the Licensing Acts were sometimes given. It was. lie thought, desirable that the applicant should appear before the magistrate in person in order that the latter might examine him, and satisfy himself that the applicant was not only of good fame and reputation, but that ho was also a fi«. person to be licensee of tho hotel which he proposed taking—i.e., that ho had the. necessary capital, knowledge of the business, etc.,

A meetiii'r of the residents of Henley was held in the Henley Public Hall last Tuesday evening (say? the Taieri Advocate) for tho purpose of arranging a welcome to Corporal M'Kegg. and at the same time to make a memorial presentation (o the parents of tho late Trooper Palmer. Mr John Stevenson, occupied Ihe chair, and after a short discussiqn it was decided to tender Corporal M'Keiw a smoke concert. The matter of a memorial presentation to the relatives of Trooper Palmer was allowed to stmu! over until tho next meeting of the committee.
