MEETINGS AND ENTEUTAINMENTS.
The usual monthly .meeting of William Johnston, L.0.L., No. 2, was held on Tuesday evening in the Friendly Societies' Hall, Soiith Dunedin, when there was a large attendance of members and visitors. RW.M. Bro. S. J. Southam presided. A large amount of correspondence was dealt with. The secretary was instructed to apply for Bro. Cooper's clearance from Melbourne. .During the evening two members were initiated into the order, and two proposed for membership. The election of officers resulted as follows:—R.W.M., Bro. ■VVhitherford; D.M., Bro. Hett; secretary, Bro. Carpenter; assistant secretary, Bro. S. J. Southam; treasurer, Bro. W. A. Carrick; chaplains, Rsv. Bro. Brooke and Bro. Bercsford;, committee —Bros. T. Fiddis, Southam, Brown, Graham, and J. Eobb; auditors, Bros. Witherford and Brovvn. A vote of thanks to the visitors was responded to by Bros. Cooper (of No. 175, Melbourne) and Bro. Straw (of No. 21). .
The Star of Roslyn Lodge, 1.0. G.T., met as usual in the Council Chambers, Roslyn, on Thursday last, when there was a good attendance of officers and members. Bro. Strachan, C.T., presided. The lodge was favoured by an official visit from the Evergreen Lodge from Green Island. The chief business of the evening was the election of officers for the ensuing quarter, which took place eft follows:—-Chief Templar, Bro. J. C. Strachan; Vice-Templar, Bro. Frederick Hitt; chaplain, Bro. Shannon ; secretary, Bro. J. E. Strachan; financial secretary. Bro. C. M. Snow; treasurer, Bro. John Wilson; marshal, Bro. Robert Scott; deputy marshal, Bro. G. Strachan. During recess refreshments were provided, and done ample justice to. On the lodge going into harmony songs were contributed by Bros. Dunlop and Douglas, a reading by Bro. Strachan, and a recitation by Bro. Hitt. The customary vote of thanks to the visitors was responded to by Bro. Stubbs (Alliance) and Bro. South (Ever-
green). Through the kindness of Mr E.Aslin, a large number of young people and their friends had a pleasant treat at Russell street Hall on Thursday evening. By means of an excellent lantern, nearly 100 pictures' of Tasmania were shown, and, as they were a fine collection, they called forth much admiration. Accompanying himself on the autoharp, Mr Aslin sang several excellent pieces, and to a deeply-interested audience related a story of child life, etc. Master George T. Schacht, who was warmly welcomed, gave in good style two violin solos, for which he was cordially thanked. Hearty thanks wore also given to Mr Aslin, and on the motion of Mr N. Paterson, a similar compliment was given to Mr Duncan Wright for his services to the children of the city.
The Pioneer of Dunedin Lodge, LO.G.T., met in the Lower Choral Hall on Tuesday evening, when there was- a large attendance of members and visitors. C.T. Bro. J. Mackie presided, all officers being present. The usual routine business was gone through, and one candidate was proposed and duly elected. Being quarter night, the various officers' reports were read and adopted. They showed the lodge to be in a sound ' constitutional position, both financially and numerically. Some of the items in the report caused much discussion. The installation of officers for the ensuing term was proceeded with:—P.C.T., Bro. J. Jftickie; G Bro. Innes; S., Bro. Martin; 11., Bro. J. Watt; D.M., Sis. M. Thorn; F.M., Bro. C. M. Snow; T., Bro. Don Cameron; S., Bro. Robertson; A.S., Bro. Gollan; C, Sis. Reid; V.T., Sis. T. Cameron; C.T., Bro. Dalton. Sis. M'Farlane and Bro. Merry were appointed in-
tailing marshals. The various officers returned thanks, and a vote of thanks was accorded the visitors, installing marshals, and all the past officers, special reference being made to Sis. M'Gregor, who had. so ably assisted as pianist to the lodge, . and also to Bro. Grogan, who ha.l been a most painstaking and energetic marshal, and. careful in looking after the lodge's regalia and goods. Bro. Merry responded to the vote on behalf of the installing marshals', and also tor the Lily of the Valley Lodge, and Bro. Smith* for tho Star of Freedom Lodge.
