CANTERBURY JUBILEE EXHIBITION.
(Per United Press Association1.) CHRISTGHURCH, August 9. At a meeting of the Jubilee Commemoi'ation General Committee, six schemes for a jubilee memorial were submitted by the Special Committee, and it was decided to adopt the ideas embodied in the three schemes comprising the erection of a group or obelisk in the city commemorative of our pioneers, the industries, and the New Zeala-iiders who have fallen in South Africa as well as the sending forth of contingents. The committee decided that old colonists should be defined as all persons who arrived in the Canterbury settlement on or before March 15, 1853. "the date of the arrival of the last of the ships of the Canterbury Association. Tlw'Arts Committee of the Jubilee Exhibition, which will be held at the cad
of the year, has decided to ask the ari societies in the four large centres of the colony to select 36 pictures by New Zeailand artists for exhibition, and a smaller number will be taken from the smaller centres. No artist will be allowed to exhibit more than two pictures, for the purpose of sale.. It is proposed to hold aii art union in connection with the display of New Zealand pictures.
