ROAD BOARD MEETINGS.
The regular monthly meeting of the Peninsula Road .Board was liekl at the board's office, Highcliff, on Saturday, and was attended by Messrs Riddell (chairman), Stuart, M'Curdy, au-1 Gunn.' Mr K. Lee waited upon the board with reference to the proposed deviation through Mrs Valpy's section (it Sliiel' Hill, Anderson's Bay. After consideration,- it was decided to purchase the piece of land offered by Mrs Valpy for a road; for the sum of £20, the residents agreeing to defray the costs of transfer and fencing. It was also decided to instruct the surveyor to make a survey and prepare a plan at his earliest convenience. Messrs Daniels and Begg waited upon the board on behalf of the Electric Tramway Company, and showed a plan of the proposed line to Anderson's Bnj. They asked the board's consent, and also terms to allow the lines to be laid along the road- under the supervision of the board. After consideration, it was decided to grant permission to "the Electric Tramway Company to lay linos on. the side or any part of the road, provided that the Electric Tramway Company maintain the road "between the rails, and also 18in on each side of the rails, for the. term of 21 years at an animal rental of £'2, with the option of renewal for a similar term, no steam engines to be used on the said road. The land registrar forwarded a plan of tha " Camp" estate, requesting the board to consider and consent to the plan and the roads shown on the plan. 'The board consented to the roads shown on the plan and lying within the Otago Peninsula Road District, but without undertaking any obligation- or liability in regard tc the formation, maintenance, or keeping in repair of the road 60' links wide, situated on the south side of allotments 8, 9, 10, as shown thereon. Several ratepayers were present, and requested the board to take steps to abate the stray cattle nuisance at S&ndymount.' It was decided to instruct • the clerk to write to the offenders, and, if the nuisance is then allowed to exist on the public road, to issue a summons without any further notice. Three months' leave of absence was granted to Mr, 11. Ross. A letter was read from Mr E.- G. Allen, M.H.R., re Main road deviation. It was decided that the matter stand over till next meet- - ing. Messrs Stewart and Weiper's tender for £5$ for formation of road at Sandymount, according to specification, was accepted, the work to be passed by the board's surveyor. Mr .M'Curdy was authorised to countersign cheques on behalf of the board. . A letter was read and received from the Peace Celebration Committee. Accounts, amounting to £121 15b 3d, were passed for payment.. . . The meeting of the Tomahawk' Road Board was held on Monday, and wa3 attended by Messrs Smaill (chairman), Mathieson, and Hen- , derson. In reply to a .requisition from the Hobaon County Council, the board decided to supply them with a small quantity of lupin seed or young plants. A circular was read from the Bank of New Zealand asking the board to pass a resolution to bofrbw, by way.of overdraft up to the legal, limit.., A resolution was .passed accordingly. The. surfaceman reported that'an employee of the Ocean Beach Domain Board was found digging and removing marram' grass that the Tomahawk Koad Board-had planted since last year for-the-'protection of the road. The grass.had. been'a,' great'protection to the drifting sand, and' if its,, removal were continued it would utterly ruin the'work that the beard had carried out' at ■'a considerable cost, as within the last five or six years the sum of £200 had, been spent in. importing, planting, and protecting the grass. It was resolved to hold the next meeting of. the board on'• Monday, October, 1. Accounts,.amounting to £41 6s 6d, were passed, for payment. .. . .
