WELLINGTON EDUCATION BOARD.

(Per United Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, July 28. At a. meeting of the Wellington brand* of the N ew Zealand Educational Institute a discussion took place upon the question, ot the Education Board's finances. One leading city head master objected to payment for technical education being made out of the ordinary funds of the board, and pointed out that since 1890 the payments to the Technical School had exceeded the receipts by £8222. He claimed that if the board had not had the Technical Scnool to support it would not be in funds. Another city Head master said teachers were labouring under a very great injustice. One of the boards reasons for the present position was that teachers had not exerted themselves to teep up their attendance averages. That assertion was unwarranted. In his school, lor instance, he was appointed 20 years ago at the same salary, with a little over 300 pupils. This number had nearly doubled but he had no increase in salary. Yet his salary was put down as in efcess of the scale. It meant that the board's own financial arrangements were not as good now as £0 years ago, when it could pay salaries. They all agreed there was a great leakage somewhere, and .it should be found out Ultimately a committee was set up to report and show clearly in what other- direction besides those indicated by the board the expenditure had been made, and to place the teachers' view before the public.
