.The. Port* Chalmers Naval Artillery celebrated' their thirty-eight anniversary in the Garrison, Hall with a grand ball. Seventy cowples took part." Captain Waters at 9 o'clock led off the grand march, with Lieutenants Strong and Fredric, of the Dunedin Navals following., Dancing was kept up until 4 a.m. The music was supplied,by the Black Family, who greatly assisted the evening's enjoyment. The hall, was decorated with bunting and evergreens, and reflected credit on the committee. Particularly noticeable among the many decorations was a largo painting representing a party of mounted rifleman crossing the South African veldt. Occasion was taken during the evening to remember the old comrades who were absent in Africa fighting for' the flag, the whole of those present joining in singing " For they are jolly good fellows"; after which the contingents' war cry was given. . The M.C.'s were P.O. Craig and Gunner E. Smith, and the catering was in the hands of Miss .Fairley.
