FOOTBALL.

KAIKORAI FOOTBALL GROUND COMPANY.

The annual meeting of the Kaikorai Football Ground Company was held in the Roslyn Council Chambers last evening. In the absence of Mr R. Chisholm, Mr L. Kemnitz was voted to the chair, and there were about 15 shareholders present.

The following' is a summary of the sevent annual reoort submitted: —

During the past season your directors have paid off ±''22 103, being the Balance of purchase money on section 10, Bishopscourt, according to arrangements with the bank, and in general the season has been a very successlul one, the best in fact since the formation of the company. Shareholders are doubtless aware that ever since the company purchased the grounds at Bishopscourt from the Bank of New Zealand (Limited; that ' institution has been charging interest on the balance of purchase money remaining unpaid at the rate of 7 per cent, per annum. This, your directors considered an excessive rate, and na the bank declined to reduce the same, your directors succeeded in paying off the mortgage, and arranging a loan for the amount at 5 per cent, per annum, thus effecting a saving of 2 per cent, per annum on their indebtedness. Your directors trust that .during the enßuing year shareholders of the company and supporters of the Football Ciub will endeavour to get the remaining shares taken up, so as to enable the directors to pay off the loan, and thus save the amount of interest annually paid thereon. The annual stntc-rnent" of receipts and expenditure show a balance of £50 Is ocl in the bank.

■The Chairman moved the adoption of the report- and balance sheet. He congratulated shareholders on having secured a first-class ground. It had been questionable at first if they oould secure a ground, and several went to look at it, and there were doubts as to whether anything could be made of it; but it had now been made at least the driest ground about Dunedin, thougli.it was hardly large enough. The report and balance sheet presented must, considered in the light of the past, •be deemed very satisfactory indeed. They.were in hopes that before "Sian^ years had passed over their heads that they might lmve sufficient funds to get a larger ground; It was very pleasing to note that they had succeeded in transferring the amount they owed, at a less rate of interest.. As time went oh a great many objections to the grounds, such as, distance, would be removed by. the ground being- made more acessible, and they would then be able to ensure larger gates than they had had. He expressed regret at the absence of Mr Chisholm, whom he was sure had been detained by something of a pressing nature. ,

Mr W. Wilkinson seconded the motion for the adaption of the report and balance sheet, which was carried.

Mr F. Farnie referred to the fact that the number of directors had been' increased to 10, the reason being that previously the work hud devolved upon a few only. He moved that, in- view of the increase in the number, the rule dealing with the matter be amended to read that threa directors retire at this smnual meeting, and that at next annual meeting other three retire, and the following annual meeting four directors retire, the retirements to be by seniority.—Mr H. Davie seconded the motion, which was carried.

The retiring directors (Messrs R. ChisholmJ D. Duncan, and F. Farley) were re-elected, as was also Mr A. Matheson to the position of auditor. Mr R. Chisholm was re-elected chnrman of directors and Mr D. Duncan hon. secrotai'y and treasurer.

On'the'motion of Mr Wedclerspoon, it was resolved—" That anyone .taking up shares be allowed to do so on the same terms as original shareholders.". . ■ ■ ; ,

.Votes-of. thanks were passed to the director.?, the secretary.. (Mr Duncan), and the treasurer. (Mr Matheson). Special reference was made to the services of Mr Duncan, and regret was expressed that the funds did not permit of some more tangible recognition being made, a being expressed that this might b| done' later on.
