ENTERTAINMENTS.
The'choir of the Dunedin Synagogue entertained the members of the congregation at a musicale held in the schoolroom attached to the. synagogue last evening. There was a large attendance despite the boisterous weather. The committee of the congregation were represented by Messrs J. Hymau (president), D. E. Theomia (vice-president), L. Mendelsohn, and S. Jacobs. The programme was carried out Tinder the conductorship of Mr A. F. Bobertshaw in a manner which delighted those present. The cKoir, rendered' two part songs in a pleasing manner. Miss Ray Marks was encored for her singing of " When in the twilight" (Adams), and a similar compliment was paid to Mr E. Falck for his rendering of " Once" (Herve), wit'i 'cello obbligato by Mr Eobertshaw. Miss E. Jcel was heartily applauded for a recitation. The instrumental trio by the Misses Arndt and Mr Eobertshaw proved to be a musical treat. The male quartet by Messrs Falck, Jacobs, Robertshaw, and M. Lichtenstein, and the duet by Messrs E. Falck and S. Jacobs elicited hearty tokens of appreciation. Miss R. Levy (" Though seas may part us") and Mr S. Jacobs (" Teach me the charm ") also scored a success. During an interval refreshments were handed round by the ladies of the choir. After the concert, which concluded with the National Anthem, the room was cleared, and.dancing indulged in for about two hours.
An-.interesting lecture, illustrated with many experiments, entitled " The Chemistry of Gases," was given on Monday evening by Mr \V. G-oodlet to the Dunedin Catholic Kterary Society. There was a large and appreciative audience. On the motion of the Rev. Father Murphy, who presided, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the lecturer.
