BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION TRUSTEES.

The regular weekly meeting of the Benevolent Institution Trustees was held yesterday, there being present—Messrs Haynes (chairman), Allan, Wilson, Treseder, Ziele, and Hazlett.

Accounts amounting to £111 5s Scl were passed for payment. ; : It was reported that Ellen Morrison, 30 years of age, William Sutcliffe, 75 years of age',, and .James O'Brien, 75 years of age, had died during the past week. j Ths Chairman said that in respect to the appointment of a. nurse at the institution, the committee appointed to inquire and report into the matter had had a discussion with the doctor, who had given it as his opinion that it would be better to get an experienced wardsman. Mr Mcc was quite qualified to do .the work, but his business took him away too much. The recommendation of the'doctor was that it would be advantageous and beneficial to the patients that an experienced wardsman should be appointed. The committee therefore made this recommendation: that an experienced wardsman be appointed to attend the sick men in the institution at a salary of £65 per annum, subject to six months' notice on either side. It would be necessary to have the duties defined, but that would have to be done after consultation with the doctor. The man would have to be a- single man.—The recommendation was.approved of, the Chairman pointing out that there was no hurry in the matter. : . The Chairman referred to the case of a family, consisting of father, two daughters, and a son of one of the latter, who were living in a filthy condition, and all sleeping in the one room. His suggestion that the matter ■ should be brought under the notice of. the local Board of Health was agreed to. '" ' • Thirty-three relief cases were dealt with.
