Z Mr ■■Robertson'; chairman of the Berwick Land Drainage Board, waited on the council, and asked thnt the council co-operate with '.the-boariUii the removal of ah island in the 'Waipori River, just below the bridge at Berwick. He'stated that the work would not cost more than £10 or £12 at the niost, and the,board,were willing to pkv half the cost, provided the council, paid the other half— The matter was referred to the chairman, Cr Driver, -and the inspector of - works, with power to act to the extent of .£6. ,; • . . ' "f ■ The Inspector of Mines wrote.stating that lie-had, approved of the plan of the proposed works on the Clarendon-Berwick road under •lie grant of £150 from the Government.—On the motion of Cr Driver, seconded by Cr Martin, "it was resolved—" That tenders be ' called for the works, the chairman arid Crs Driver and Clark to meet and deal with the same as soon ag convenient." Pr Begg moved, and Cr Hewitson seconded ---lhat the chairman, Crs Rutherford and Haggart be appointed a committee to inspect the road deviation through Mv John property, and arrange with him for the road."—Agreed to. - '..Or Rutherford moved—" That the inspector prepare a schedule for the year commencing. A special meeting of the council was then held,' arid attended by those who were present at tlie previous irieetirig. ■ Martin , moved—"That Tokomairiro Riding be constituted a special works district to be called the Tokomairiro Works district, and that the council take the necessary steps to .rais>e.a loah of £3500 under "The Local bodies' Loans Act, 1886. Amendment Act, IE9S, . for the construction and itietalliiip of certain roads within the district, arid that a special rate be made and levied to meet the interest charges on the above loan." Cr Haggart seconded the motion, which was carried. tt^V re Pol l of a meeting of ratepayers in the Hillend subdivision of the Balmoral Ridin" wits forwarded by Mr George Moore, the re° port cdntairiing a resolution to the effect that the council be asked to raise a loan of" £2600 under the Local Bodies' Loans Act, arid that an application be made to the Government for a subsidy eaual to the amount of the loan '.Cr Begg moved—"That the Hillend subdivision ,of the Balmoral Riding be constituted ii special ivorks district, to be called the Hillend Wcirks district, and that the council take the necessary steps to raise a loan of £2600 under " The Local Bodies' Loans Act l pP6, Ameriilmeht Act., IRS9," for the construction aiid metalling of certain roads withih the disirict. aiid thot a special rate be inade,rtnd levied to meet the interest charges on thfe said lo'ah.V.. •' ° The itiotibii was seconded by Cr Driver and.carried.; , ' Cr Ruthferfbrd forwarded a report of a meeting of the ratepayers of Inchclutha, held at Stirling, at. ivliicli a respliitioil was carried asking the council to take the necessary steps to raise a loan of £3500 for metalling loads in Tuchclutha. Cr Haggart moved—" That Kaitangata Riding be,,constituted a. special works district, and that "the council take the, necessary steps'to raise a loan of £1800 under 'The Local. Bodies' Loans Act.»lßF6, Amendment Act. 1R99,' foi- the construction and- gravelling of certain roads in the Wangaloa district, arid tliat a. special rate he" made aiid levied over the said district to meet the interest charges on the above loan."—Carried. On the motion of Cr "Martini ' seconded by Cr Hewitson, it was resolved—" That an application be made to (he Government for a grant equal to tlie amount of the special loans." ..........'....
