The imports into the colony during December quarter amounted in value to £2,4-00,460, including £117,515 of specie, as ■ against'-£2,lß7,4-06 for the corresponding quarter of 1898. For, the year the.total was £8,739,633, against £§^230,600 for the" previous year. ' The - returns for: the principal ports are:—Auckland, £2,211,719'; Wellington, £2,067,111;! Christchurch,£l,449,473; Dunedin,£1,845,969.' The exports for the December quarter were valued at £2,763,537 (not including the valued of horses, forage, etc., sent to the Cape, with the contingent), against £1,953,610 for the-' December quarter of 1898. The total for the year was £11,933,335, against £10,517,955 in' 1898. The figures for the leading ports are:—Auckland, £1,860,604-; Wellington, £1,896,291: Cliristohurch, £2,311,293; Dunedin, £1,316,385; Napier, £988,466; Bluff. £751,881; Timaru, £726,476.
