Values of goods generally are well maintained, and we have no changes in prices to report. There is the usual demand for seasonable grocery lines, and good business-is.-passing in. iron and hardware goods. The; Virawa arrived from Calcutta during the week with shipments of some Eastern lines for. this market. The bulk of supplies of cornsaeks, however, for local requirements- are on board the s.sT Wanaka* which is due from Calcutta in the early part of next month. The harvest is a late one, and the Wanaka's shipments will be in plenty of time. ■■■' ' .

A general meeting of shareholders in Godward's Spiral Pin and New Inventions Company was held in Invercargill on the 23rd inst. The following .were appointed directors:—Hon. J. G. Ward, Messrs W. Todd, W. Wesney, G. C. Tothill, E. R. Godward, C. S. Lonquet, F. V. Raymond, D. W. M'Kay, and Donald Reid, jun., of Dunedin. It was decided to recapitalise the company at £60,000, in 60,000 shares of £1 each, with a liability of 6d per share.. ..Letters were, read from the American agent telling of good progress in the negotiations,-1 and" that'at-I'least two offers were pending, no difficulties having been experienced to date.
