Lieutenant Baron, casualties and material being made a feature of the drill. Beforo being dismisserl Lieutenant-colonel Webb addressed the j parade, saying that it .gave him great pleasure ' to have inspected tho Battery that evening. Ho complimented Cimtain CUahuer or* behalf of the Battery on the cleanliness of the guns, uniforms, and camp, and generally on tho smartness of the Battery's appearance and \vo;k. He had. not inspected the Battery for some time, but'was very pleased with what he had seen that night, and ho had no doubt that tho past fortnight's work had done every one very much good notwithstanding the bad weather. After the parade was dismissed, and as a finale to the fortnight's camp, a smoke concert was held in the room under the grand stand. A large number of ex-membevs of the Battery wore present, and, along with numbers of the ru'esont members, 'contributed items to the evening's programme. Among the other toasts drunk during the evening was that of

" Our Comrades in the Transvaal," proposed by CaiAiin Chalmer,' who, in doing so, impressed on the men tho fact that the oath of allegiance Hvhieh they took on joraingtho volunteer force was no mere matter of form. -He also referred to the fact that Major Robin, the commandant of the first contingent, commenced his military career as a gunner in the B Battery. There will be a parade this afternoon at 3 o'clock, p.t Forbury Park, too at G o'clock, and parade preparatory to striking camp and returning to town at 7 o'clock.
