CHARGE OF IMPERSONATION.

, Frank Loftus, of "DaSre, was to-day committed for trial at the Supremo Court for voting in the name of John Loftus, of Mataura-, a labourer, at the goncval election for Mataura. Accused's explanation to the court was that "before going to tho booth at Woodlands l:a inspected a roll, mid found two named Loftus on it—John and K. 0. He thought the latter referred- to his brother, ana that a mistake ' had been made in the initials. Ke voted in the belief that he was the person registered as John, and described himself to the returning officer, who had known him for three years as Jiving in the Mataura, because Dacre was in the electoral district. He gave the name without being asked as John, and. in answer to questions, told the leturning officer, that .lie was a labourer in Mataura. *.
