BASTARD POLITICS. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir— 'The politics iof to-morrow in all essential points will be the politics of to-day ancl yesterday, and the spasmodic seeking for new forms is nothing more than hysterical vanity, the freaks lof strolling players and charlatanism. Its sole result has . hitherto been childish declamation'with coloured lights arid changing perfumes as accompaniments, and atavisitic games 'of shadows and pantomimes, nor will it produce anything more serious in the future.". : "
:. The ; above illustrates^ryvc.learly the politics as. recently laid before jthe electors of Bruce by the Right Hon. ~the Premier and fins servile henchman, -Mi-:. A.,,Morrison, the late member for Caversham,- In addressing the miners of Kaitangata, they well knew the character of the.minds of the men they were addressing. The trump; card they had to play was the appeal;,to class distinction, and right well they knew how to play it, and the facile natures ■ they had to play with. How beautifully the miners ;.were fooled by the account of the tinpbt legislation introduced for the sole purpose of1 kindling'class jealousies will probably come very closely home to them ere many, months have elapsed. The policy of "spoils to' the victors " was openly advocated on Saturday night by Mr Morrison in all its naked indecency, but he was very much wanting in courtesy in his behaviour to a poor widow on the Kaitangata fund, who had been clone out of her aliment by this wretched poor man's Government, and who asked for a little information in regard to the matter! When will the Kaitanffata miners awake from their political sleep? What has hindered ttieV. settlement of their industrial dispute but , the lethargy' of the Premier?. He said to himself,^.'-' Let the beg-' *gars wait," I can go'down and see them before the election. I can talk them over." How he came down, and the. promises he gave them is well known, now. In the meantime they have been out of pocket by hundreds of pounds, and yet, in their blindness, they cheev him and cheer Mr Morrison simply because theyyhav.e brought in-certain legislation which 13 solely > brought in to set class against class. The Bruce electors are not all of the nature of those who attended Mi\ Morrison's meeting on Saturday night. The majority are men and women who exist notmerely for the present, who are able to,think for themselves who are accustomed "to look before and after, and who are able to see through and through, the speciousness..; of the addresses given by the Premier and Mr Morri&on. They are disgusted with the innuendoes and the vile half-truths put before ■them...-recently, arid I have still enough faith in (the majority of the electors of Bruce to say that on the 6th of December they will declare for purity of government and the turning put of'office of a set of men whose politics are of a bastard breed and who exist for what is to be made out of the game.—l am, etci,'.
