BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETINGS.

PORT CHALMERS.

The. Port-.Chalmers Town. Council met oft Monday evening, when there were present: The Mayor (Mr J. Mill), Crs J: Watson, Cameron, Leach, Inries, Cable, Inverarity, Tait, Wilson,. Edgar. Apologies were received from Crs Weir and Shanks.

Mr W. Driver wrote requesting permission to lay a crossing at section 36, George street, at his own cost, and to the satisfaction' of the borough inspector.—Granted. - ■ ■■ The Works Committee reported on the work on which the inspector and assistants had been occupied since the 10th inst.—-Adopted. ;. The Sa,nitary Committee reported that they were considering a scheme for the removal of nightsoil, and would submit a full report of the next meeting.—Adopted.

i The Finance Committee recommended accounts to be paid amounting to £56 13s lOd. Coupons .amounting to £175, being half-yearly interest on the £5000 general loan, had been paid by the bank since last meeting- The committee reported that 90 dogs had been registered, for the year 1899, the registration fee being 7s 6d. They recommended that for the year 1900 a fee'of 10s be charged, and that Mr G. Ross be" reappointed collector of the tax on the same terms as he at present, holds the position.—The report was adopted, with the alteration of the dog tax to 7s 6d. Tenders for carting for, \l months were received from Messrs Ci Stevenson, and A. Perry, and referred to the Works Committee to accept the.lowest or most eligible. John Smith's tender of £2 10s for leasing the public weighbridge was also referred to the Works Committee.

It was resolved to appoint the mayor to attend the meetings of the Hospital and' Charitable Aid Boards on December 4, and to nominate Mr John Morgan to represent the district. ■ . . ' • ■'

ST. KILDA.

The usual meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last evening, when' there were present—The Mayor (Mr T, S. Culling), Crs Allen, Hodge, Mitchell, and

Messrs Callan and Gallaway wrote re'the Musselburgh roads. They had received a ietter from Messrs Kenyan'and Hosking askmg whether the council-still'adhered to the decision arrived at with-regard to the roads. • J.he Assets Realisation Board was of opinion that the council should accept the original proposal;—To be referred to the previous resolution of the council in the matter.' • Mr R. The Inspector fepbrted that the cost of putting down a drain on the west, side of the Queens Drive would be £134.--The Mayor said there was, a lot of work that required to be done, for which a general scheme was required. They could not think of starting the work with their present funds. Ho thought they should appeal to the ratepayers at some near date.—The matter was allowed to stand over in the meantime.
