OTAGO SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.
The adjourned meeting of the School Commissioners was held yesterday morning, when there were present—Messrs J. P. Maitland .(chairman), D. Borrie," W. Dallas, T. M'Gibbon, and A. Baldey.
The Secretary of the Southland location Board wrote applying for the reservation of five acres of section 2, block V, Wendonside, as a school site.—Agreed to reserve the piece of land as requested.
An application was received from Mr Kenneth Mackenzie for the grazing right over part of section 7, block IX, Waikaia district.— Agreed to grant the right for one year.at £ rental of 4d per acre.
Mr J. Ij. M'Donald, the commissioners' agenfc in Southland, submitted his report, which, was dealt with jas follows: Applications were received from Messrs W. Christi< and James Baxter for;drain tiles.—On the agent's recommendation it was resolved to grant the tile' 3. asked' for.—^An application, was received from Mr A. Eoy to cut a large outfall ditch through a swamp on his leasehold.—lt was decided to allow valuation forcost of cutting sanie at the expiry of lease. ——Mr M'Donald forwarded a numbei of applications for consent to transfer leases, and as there were no objections the transfers were assented to with the usual conditions. He also forwarded a letter from Mr R. T.Stewart, for the Argyle Hydraulic Sluicing Company, re the commissioners' objection to mining on Messrs Gall and Paterson's leasehold.—lt was decided to inform Mr Stewart that the commissioners had no power to grant to anyone the right to mine for gold on endowment land.- Mr M'Donald reported that Mr Stewart had withdrawn his application for right to coal lease.:—Received. •
The tender of Mr P. M'Gee, foi the lease of section 2 of 105, Taringatura, at 3s 9d per iicre, was .approved. ' _ ..;.." . Mr W. Russell, town clerk, Winton, wrote asking the commissioners to j sin in an agreement to allow a tile drain to be put through, part of section 9, block XIV, Winton.—lt was resolved that no objection be offered to-"the proposed scheme of drainage, but the commissioners would take no responsibility. . ■'■ It was resolved that in future that the commissioners' ': monthly meetings be held on the third Tuesday iii each month.
Accounts amounting to £41 18s 7d were passed for payment. ■•-:-■'
