FIRES

(Pkr United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 20.

The house of Mr Baggstrom, engineer, in Beresford street, was burned down this morning. Insurances (on the house and furniture), £360 in the New Zealand office.

A fire at Milburn on Saturday destroyed tho residence of Mr S. Fryer, who lost all his household effects, which were uninsured. The Wyndham Farmer reports that the stables in connection with the homestead at Glenham station were destroyed by fire on Monday morning. The stables contained 12 stalls and four loose-boxes. A large amount of harness and fencing tools, also 1000 cornsacks and a quantity of sundries were de; stroyed. Four valuable dogs were burned to death. Mr W. L. Mitchell, the manager of Glenham station^ estimates the loss at fully £700—namely, £500 on the buildings and £200 on the contents. There is a line of insurance with the South British office, but we have not ascertained the amount of the cover. The origin of the fire is wrapped in mystery, but Mr Mitchell has no reason to suspect that it was the act of an incendiary, as he does not think either he or the Glenham proprietary l-,as an enemy in the district. The loss to the proprietary is a serious one, and is intensified by the fact that four weeks ago another large block of buildings standing on a site close to'those now burned, wore also mysteriously destroyed by fire.
