A LIBEL ACTION.

WELLINGTON, April 20.

Mr Justice Edwards had before him today a libel action for £501,, by Michael Higgins, against the Evening Post. Higgins, who described himself as a. bookmaker, was fined for loitering, and the Post, in a paragraph recording the fact, used the word " loafer," which the plaintiff alleges is a reflection on him. The plaintiff did not give evidence. Mr Justice Edwards said according to the dictionary definition the meaning of a "loafer" was a man who bad been twice convicted of loitering. Plaintiff could not very well complain of the term. The jury, after five minutes' retirement, gave a verdict for defendant, with costs., .
