A PETITION DISMISSED BY THE
PRESBYTERY.
■ The Dunedin Presbytery met again in private in.. First- Church yesterday morning to further consider "the matter referred to them on petition by certain members of the North Dunedin Church, the Rev. I. Jolly (moderator) presiding. -
After a somewhat lengthy discussion, the following motion wits unanimously agreed to: —"Having received from certain members and ex-members of the congregation at North Dunedin a.petition requesting an investigation into the slate of affairs in that congregation, and having heard, several petitioners in sup- . port of the 'request, and having heard Air MTiityra's answer to the complaint made against him, and his vindication of his conduct in. his. present pastorate, also certain members of the congregation in confirmation of Mr Al'lntyre's statements, the Presbytery declare that the petitioners have failed to substantiate the counts in the complaint, and therefore dismiss the petition; declare that any further investigation is undesirable, as likely to lead to no good results; exhort the petitioners to cease from further agitation of their grievances, and Air M'lntyre to be careful to' avoid .occasions of mistniderstanding with his people; and trust that the work at North Dunedin may be henceforth carried on with the mutual goodwill and brotherly feeling which ought to characterise tbe officebearers and members of a congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ."
At the next meeting" of the Presbytery on the 2nd prox., tho above resolution will be intimated to^he petitioners.
— An eccentric wedding took place recently at St. Peter's Church, New York, when an artillery officer named Lalloway was married to a lady named Martha AVasliington. The happy pair, the bridesmaids, the besfman, the pastor. Mr Roche, and 12 brother officers of the bridegroom, who were present, were all over 6ft high. In order to preserve tbe record in its completeness no others were admitted to the ceremony.
