THE ROCKLANDS CLEARING SALE.

There was a very large attendance at the displenjshing sale hold at Roeklauds Farm, U'arepa, on Thursday, when a sale took place on account of Mr Georgo Smith, who a month of six weeks ago disposed of this very fine farm to Mr William" Marshall, who has been manager of tho Finegand estate for the last 14 years. Buyers wero present from Dunedin, Taieri, Tapanui, anol Tokomairiro. The salo was a very extensive one, Mr Smith having his place, well stocked with dead and live stock of all kinds, and all of a superior quality. Mr J. W. Wilsoii (Wilson, Mackay, and Co.) wielded the hammer for the most part, but ho was ably assisted by Mr J. A. Duthie, of Milton. Mr Smith had everything well arranged, and no time ivas wasted. The live slock were all in capital condition, and the implements in a, good state of repair. Bidding throughout the sale was very keen, and highly satisfactory prices were realised. The draught horses, a first-class lot. realised £42. £34, £36 10s. £31 10s. £26, £25, £31 10s, £29;-. aged, £14 10s, £16. £20, mares, £39. £27, £36; foals, £3, £9 10s, £1., hacks and harness horses fetched £18 10s. £13. £14; two-year-olds, 6 to 10 guineas. Cows brought from £3 10s to £4 10s; heifers, 60s to 67s 6d ; Lambs sold at 7s to 8s 3d, ewes 9s 3d io 9s sd, and rams at a guinea. Pigs sold well at. 26.! to 30s, a fine sow in young, after spirited bidding, was knocked down at 7 guineas. Of tho implements and machinery, a chaffcultcr and bagger sold at £31, seed and manure sower £20, turnip drill £7 10s, M'Cormick binder £18 ss, double-furrow plough £9 .three 1 furrow plough £10, four-leaf harrows £4 ss, drays and frames up to £16 IS?, straw clray £12. The harness and sundries ail realised equally good prices. The threshing mil! and engine (Marshall and Sons) was purchased by Messrs Leonard and M'Kenzie.. Manuka Island. Mr Marshall took possession of Rocklands on Friday, and Mr Smith intends to take up his residence in Balclutha.
