AN IRISH CONFERENCE.
LONDON, April 13.
Sir Thomas Esmonde, U.l'., intends to ask the Irish County Councils to each send two delegates to a conference in Dublin, forming practically a people's parliament, for the discussion of national questions.
SENTENCE ON A SPECULATOR,
Claudo Vautin, • the Westralian mining speculator, has been sentenced to six months' imprisonment on a, charge of defrauding the shareholders \in • certain mining companies to tho extent of £20,000.

KRUGER AND THE UITLANDERS.

President Kruger will not allow outdoor meetings of the Uitlanders to be held at Johannesburg, lie being apprehensive of serious conseouenecs.
REVOLUTION IN BOLIVIA.

News has reached here that a revolution has been proceeding for some time in Bolivia, Colonel Pando, leader of the revolutionists, lias defeated the Government forces under President Alonzo, killing 200 of them.

GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER.
MELBOURNE, April 13.
Alexander Pollock, one of tho Permanent Artillery gunners at Queensclili, was found guilty of the manslaughter of his comrade, Gunner Briner, and sentenced to 10 years' penal servitude.
[dust before the men in the Quccnscliff barracks retired to rest Pollock, who had been ordered to put away his carbine, turned to his comrades and inquired whether any of them dared him to shoot. Gunner Briner made a jocular remark, "That is always your bluff." when Pollock pointed.the weapon at him, and, pulling the trigger, slm* Briner through tho lungs, the, wound resulting fatally two days later. The weapon was not supposed to be loaded.]
FEDERATION. SYDNEY, April 14. (Received April 15, at 0.50 a.m.) It is rumoured that the Council will insist on a three months' interval prior to the federal referendum, but' will give way on tho other amendments. STUDYING NEW ZEALAND LEGISLATION. Mr ]3,est, a Victorian Minister, and Mr Trenwith, leader of the Labour party in the Assembly, have arrived here, en route for New Zealand. They will study', the subject of closer settlement on the land as well as labour questions.
