FRIENDLY SOCIETY.

The fortnightly ■ meeting of the Hand aiid Heart Lodge was hem in tho lodge rooms, Stuart street, on the 11th inst. G.M. Bro. B. Turley, in the absence of the N.G. (Bro. H. J. Willis), presided. Three candidates were balloted for and initiated. The following were elected a committee to make arrangements for the "open night" to be held on May 28, and lepoi't at next lodge meeting:—Elective officers and G.M. E. Turley, P.G. Beadle, P.G. J. Allan, P.P.C.S. P. Black. The delegates from the lodge who attended'the district meeting held Bt Palmerston on the 29th ult. gave their reports of tho business transacted, and all bore testimony to the very kind and liberal manner in which the brethren of Palmerston Lodge had treated them. P.P.G.M. Bro. Hamel moved— "That the delegates.to Palmerston be thanked for the manner in which they had attended to the business." The nomination and election of representatives for the Dispensary Board resulted in the previous representatives being elected unopposed. P.P.G.M. Bro. Miller and P. G. Munro returned thanks for their re-elec-tion on the Dispensary- Committee. The lodge representatives were thanked heartily for past services rendered in connection with the Dispensary. The lodge being draped.in mourning on account of the recent death of P.P.G.M. Bro. J. Hopcraft, who was a very old member of the-Hand and Heart Lodge, and very much respected by the brethren of the M.UXO.O.F. in Otago, the harmony, under the direction of the V.G. for the evening, was postponed. Bro. P. Black moved, and Bro. Ktimel seconded—

" That a letter of condolence and sympathy be forwarded by the permanent secretary to Mrs Hopcraft and her family."—Carried. Receipts, £51 4a 7d.
